Friday Pop Quiz: (Oct 4)

UAS FH Construction Update for 10/04/2013

Friday afternoon pop quiz:

What profession has saved more lives?  Doctors,  Law Enforcement, Military or Engineers.

The correct answer is Engineers.  Specifically Civil Engineers who bring you clean water and take away the dirty water.  Most of us take for granted that when you turn on the tap there will be clean water to drink, wash the dishes or take a shower.  Then when after we make the water dirty we simply pull the plug or flush the toilet and the dirty water goes away.  Before the advent of indoor plumbing and water treatment systems, millions of people died due to diseases caused by bad water and unsanitary conditions.

This was an exciting week for us Civil Engineers.  The Contractor worked on installing a waterline from the mainline north of the project site and installing a sewerline to the south down to the City’s sewerline in Glacier Highway.   The freshmen living in this Hall will never see these two lines or even care that they are there.  However, the UAS Freshman Residence Hall would be a very unpleasant place without them.

The new cut you see on Glacier Highway heading up towards Freshman Housing between residances, is this related to this project?

Yes. This is the sewer line from the new residence hall to Glacier Highway. Nathan will have the details.
