Better Insulation Protection
Forming Foundation Walls. With the concrete footers poured last week, the Contractor has started to place concrete forms for the foundation walls. The foundation walls include an interior 8-inch concrete wall, 4-inches of insulation and then a 4-inch exterior concrete wall. The 8-inch wall is the structural component that holds the building up. The 4-inch insulation keeps the heat inside the building and the 4-inch concrete wall protects the insulation. This is the first time many of us have seen concrete used to protect the foundation insulation. We use to use metal or wood siding to protect the insulation. However, it always got damaged by snow plows, ice, water and porcupines. I would like to see a porcupine try and chew through 4-inches of concrete.
