Two summer RUE positions are available with the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute at Oregon State University to participate in a project collecting tree trait data to support earth system modeling. Students will learn to collect and process tree cores, measure tree and crown height with lasers, measure leaf area with optical sensors, and make other forest measurements. Students will also analyze and format data according to protocols developed for the AmeriFlux network, Fluxnet, and the U.N. Global Terrestrial Observing System-Terrestrial Carbon Observations. Field work will be conducted in eastern Oregon. Expected qualifications: Use of excel for data entry and analysis. Desired qualifications: Field experience making tree measurements and using field instruments (e.g. LAI-2000). The internship pays $500 per week in addition to housing and other benefits.
